Complex PTSD
What is Complex PTSD?
Unlike PTSD, which often stems from a single traumatic event, C-PTSD arises from chronic trauma, especially in relationships. This may include childhood emotional neglect, domestic violence, or long-term exposure to unsafe environments.
Common symptoms include:
-
Difficulty trusting others or yourself
-
Emotional flashbacks
-
Chronic shame or self-criticism
-
Dissociation or emotional numbness
-
Hypervigilance or always being "on edge"
-
Relationship and attachment struggles
Therapy isn’t about fixing you, it’s about coming home to yourself. Using body-based methods and trauma-specific therapies, we unwind these patterns at a nervous system level.
How the modalities I use help with symptoms of C-PTSD:
-
Somatic Experiencing (SE™): Helps regulate the chronic dysregulation of the nervous system often found in C-PTSD, supporting a shift from survival to presence.
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS): Addresses the internal fragmentation caused by chronic trauma by helping you relate to your parts with compassion and curiosity.
-
EMDR: Targets and reprocesses emotionally charged memories, softening the impact of trauma and shifting negative core beliefs rooted in early experiences.
-
Brainspotting: Accesses and integrates deep, nonverbal trauma stored in the midbrain, especially useful for those who struggle to articulate their experiences.
